the result
Sorry it's blurry, didn't want to use the flash...this year our featured carver used the "brow" as his inspiration!
Pumpkin Time!
We carved one of our pumpkins tonight, Ollie really enjoyed it this year! I enjoyed watching him enjoy it. We asked him to touch it and he did and then kept saying "Coka" which he said meant gross, so funny to hear him "invent" words lately! Happy early Halloween!

the faces of my days...
Snapped these shots on the playground today for my bulletin board. Here they are Mrs. Hannam's 2nd grade class of 2009-2010, what a group of sweetie pies! I feel totally blessed to be their teacher!

what's in a name?
No, this is not my belly, probably could be (image courtesy of google.) So we're having another Hannam, 20 weeks tomorrow, down hill from here. We have chosen to not know the gender of this wee little babe, which makes naming a bit tricky in my opinion. However, if you are friends with Matt on facebook you know by now that he has deemed the gender and also given this child a name, he also refers to him or her as this name often.
For some reason not knowing the gender has my naming skills in a tizzy, I guess I think we'll go into the hospital with a list of both boy and girl names and see what he or she looks like but hey a baby looks like a baby, right? It feels like more pressure this time or perhaps the pressure comes from the fact that it very well could be a girl and whew, girl name are so hard for us. I have a few that I like, and due to the fact that I grew up in Charleston SC most of them are very southern, which could be fun, but this is the name that this child will have forever. I like a few other names that upon further investigation are on the top baby name lists and are very trendy right now. Not sure that's the way we want to go either.
So here's the deal...your chance to help a sister out. Have you ever thought hey if my last name was Hannam and I was having a baby I would name it______. Oh and it probably needs to "go" with Ollie whatever that means. When I was growing up I always dreamed that if I had a little girl I would name her Hannah, but Hannah Hannam...not so much. The bright side is, she'd only really have to know 4 letters to spell her name. So bring it on, I can't wait to hear what you suggest!

a gift...
Matt gave me a gift today...it wasn't flowers or chocolates or a pair of new Danskos, although all of those would be very nice. He gave me the gift of time...time alone.
While I was putting the finishing touches on our lunch today he walked in and said, Whit I've got something for you to do today. And the somewhat unkind words that followed were, sure right after I work on the YL banquet stuff and do my lesson plans. And then he surprised me and said, I want you to go be by yourself for at least an hour today.
Truth be told, I don't have much time, well sure I do, but I mean I don't choose to spend my time being alone. And truth be told even more I used to be scared to be alone. I am an extrovert you see and being with people gives me fuel, but something inside him sensed what was screaming on the inside of me today...I need get away...to reflect...to pray...to praise...to sit...to breathe...to be alone.
So I headed to a local coffee joint with my reading materials in hand. And I asked Jesus to show up because I desperately needed a word from my Savior. And He did. I turned to Chapter 16 in The Rabbi's Heartbeat by Brennan Manning, the chapter titled "Recovering Passion" and these were the words that jumped off the page.
"The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field which someone has found; he hides it again, and goes off happy, sells everything he owns and buys the field." Matthew 13:44
The treasure is Jesus Christ.
It is one thing to discover the treasure and quite another to claim it as one's own through ruthless determination and tenacious effort. -B. Manning
He goes on to talk about how John the disciple would sit so close to Christ that he would hear his very heartbeat. And that John did not believe that Jesus was the most important thing; he believed that Jesus was the ONLY thing. That...is...passion.
The treasure is Jesus Christ...what a gift.

Ultrasound pic!
So, we got to "see" new baby Hannam yesterday. He/She is very cute, very healthy about 8 ounces, 6 inches long and very wiggly, the tech was trying to get some good pics of the heart and the sweet little babe kept moving around, I had to get up and do some jumping jacks to see if that would help. It did! We did not find out if its a boy or a girl, we are going to be surprised. I'm almost half way there, only 22 more weeks. Fun times!

Day out with Thomas!
We took a day trip to Spencer, NC yesterday to the Transportation museum. Our good friend Thomas the Train was there and so were Grandma and Grandaddy!
We rode a train (not Thomas) for about 30 minutes, we saw Sir Topham Hatt, jumped in a jumpy castle, caught bubbles, played a round of mini-golf, got our first temporary tattoo, saw lots of model trains and learned a ton about railroad history. All aboard!
My attempt at a self-portrait of my growing baby belly. Look beyond the conductor.
What a fun day!
