To teethe or not to teethe, this is the question

Okay, so last week when my parents were here to visit my mom said she thought that Ollie was "teething." Hmm, I said he's only 4 months old. He was of the somewhat fussy nature when she was keeping him...I just kinda brushed it off to be more new people in my space kind of fussing. But upon further investigation, I think she might just be right. Here are his signs: drooling (yikes, a lot), chewing on anything, including my fingers any time they are near, slight rash around the mouth (that's probably from the drool) well and, sigh, fussiness. Ollie has been thus far a very content baby, so any change in his demeanor throws us off a bit. So what do you think, lets do another bloggers poll, when did your baby start teething? The internet machine says it can happen as early as 4 months...yay! I'd love any tips and or suggestions, :).

Hey Whitney,

Joy didn't get her first tooth until she was 12 months old, but Natalie has been teething since she was 3 months. Her bottom front two teeth started cutting through at that time and still are not all the way in (and she's 7-months-old!). I have found (with my pediatrician's help) that Infant's ibuprofen is the best cure, as well as Hyland's teething tablets (found in the vitamins section at Walmart or other drugstores). Orajel makes some qtip swab looking things, but I haven't found them to be too effective. Hope this helps! Love, Haley

No babies of my own as of yet, but my nephew liked any teething item that you could chill. He seemed to love chewing on things that were cold.
The blog is great, btw.

I think Ollie is teething and I guess we will find out this week when he goes for his 4-month check-up. Anyways, he is the cutest little grandson I have ever had. He is very smart too. Love to you from Charleston Ollie. You too Whit and Matt!

Just wondering, did the fussiness begin about the same time as the cereal began? Wonder if the change in solid food for the first time could be affecting digestion in some way. Are you noticing anything different in bowel movements?

i would say, definitely, "YES!" he is teething. and from what i've heard from my pediatrician, is that from about 3 months on, they are really always teething. but when the teeth are about to cut through, that's when asher is especially fussy...waking up every couple hours, wanting to eat, but then not wanting to, being just kind of cranky, not to mention all the other "signs" (drooling, chewing, etc.) another sign that we have had with him, is a low grade fever right when they are about to cut. but also, you have to remember, ollie IS becoming a man...which means that he is entitled to be a little moody every now and then. i've noticed that even as mild tempered as asher is, when he's irritated or grumpy, he lets you know it! so, your little man might just be coming into his own person more, too. being more expressive of how he's feeling. just think about when matt is sore or sick...how does he act? haha.

Don't you feel sorry for people that have to mess up a sweet Mommy's Blog site. We will pray for them. Hope you have received more good ones. I think you should have a ring that you can put in the refrigerator. It will be good on his little gums. I can't wait to see that new tooth.
